Jionstan
Jionstan is one of the Terran nations that Explorers may come from. It is in the continent Onia.
A Brief History
Jionstan is an old nation, having been officially founded in the 8th century. Three major ethnic groups made up the Onia continent: the Ji, Onen and Ang. After several centuries where the Ji and Onen tribes ruled over the Ang minority, the small continent split into Jionstan and Angastan. Most Jionstani were traditionally followers of Baridism, but after the emergence of Tirianism in nearby Gebik, this became the dominant religion of the country and remains so today. Jionstan has been a peaceful country for the majority of its existence, and despite their early skirmishes it now sees Angastan as a close ally. Jionstani culture is noted for the high regard with which it holds education, innovation and science; the planet’s first university was founded in the Jionstani capital, Intara, in 1014, and the country is behind such scientific advances as the bionic arm, solar panels and the lightspeed engine. Jionstan is also notable for founding the first space exploration programme in the world.
Today, Jionstan is a wealthy country. Their focus on technological advances has allowed them to mitigate some of the effects of air pollution that are plaguing the rest of the world – their wealth also allowed them to rely on cheap overseas labour for manufacturing, sending the problems overseas. Major issues facing Jionstan include their ageing population and droughts in their inland regions due to heatwaves; this particularly affects the city of Kepur, which is on the edge of the Nebiri Desert and is the only major inland city.
Geography
Jionstan has a naturally hot climate, particularly in the areas surrounding the Nebiri Desert. Most of the major cities are along the coastline or in the fertile Miala Bay region, which is more tropical and particularly famous for its fruit trees. The western end of the Angastan border crosses over the Kaimasa mountain range.
Major Cities
Intara, Ben-Armid, Kepur, Gekh.
